Hodgkinson Wraps Up Season with Winning Performance at Athlos in New York
The athlete achieved her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds the previous season in London.
Keely Hodgkinson concluded her 800m campaign with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in NYC on Friday evening.
{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who earned bronze at the World Championships recently, dominated an impressive victory in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a season impacted by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot again in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) secured third place.
"I've barely raced this season so it was probably easier for me to compete and want to give it something," stated Hodgkinson.
"The environment out there is crazy so it was really, really fun."
The female-exclusive event packed Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to traditional track, with live music and special crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the victors with their crowns.
Previous champions took home sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.
The competition also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.
The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, secured the sprint double.
