In the episode, a flashback discloses that popular personality Alastor the Radio Demon was a mass murderer in his mortal days. Being aware he was headed to the underworld, he made contact with the afterlife beforehand to secure a strong position there. Rosie, who leads the cannibal faction in Hell, promised Alastor he would become “the strongest Sinner in Hell” in return for his eternal spirit.

This prompts the question: In what way is this character powerful enough to raise Alastor over every other Demonic Sinners?

“The agreement between Rosie and Alastor is the first stepping stone in a larger narrative that encompasses so much, moving into the third season,” the creator explains. “Obviously that is an excellent question: How is she that powerful? The solution could be many things, but the revelation is in season three. I'm very excited for fans to witness it.”

There’s no telling the duration viewers will have to remain for Hazbin Hotel’s next season. The production companies have approved seasons 3 and 4, but the creator frequently notes that animation is a slow, lengthy process, and later seasons are undated. Nevertheless, she states holding off on those details is an important part of maintaining season 2’s focus in the right places.

“The challenge of any agreement with demons, or stories that have mysteries, is giving people sufficient clues to be like, Something's up here, and then unveiling that as we go, and letting that be satisfying,” she comments. “So I'm very excited.”

Questions Answered in The Next Season

The showrunner promises that the upcoming season will tackle the questions fans have been posing, like why the cannibal leader ordered Alastor to disappear for a seven-year period, which weakened his influence in the infernal realm.

“The whole seven years, and the pacts these humans are doing, and all that — it contributes to a larger story,” she says.

Meanwhile, the Rosie/Alastor backstory episode provides another glimpse into what the core cast of Demonic Sinners looked like as humans, the second after viewing Sir Pentious’ historical mortal appearance in episode 2. She says that a lot of thought went into these character designs.

“The mortal forms of these personas carry so much weight,” she says. “They vary from looking quite distinct from their demon form to looking very similar. With the first character, the first one we see, there was some internal discussion internally between going with something that symbolizes the personality, as opposed to selecting something that's historically correct. We opted for making something that just felt like it was him.”

She says the primary controversy over Pentious’ human design was his lengthy locks: “We were like, ‘Nobody really had extended hair like that in that historical period.’ But at the same time, we think the silhouette is so important, and we also just felt he appeared attractive. We were like, ‘This just feels right.’ We kind of provided the rationale that he lived in seclusion, so he just let his hair grow out. So there is always a solution. As we design the mortal forms of these characters […] it's such a fun thing to explore and figure out. I am looking forward for fans to view additional of the appearances of the human versions.”
